Message from the Chairman of the JSME-FED

Hiroshi Hayami,
Kyushu University

Welcome to our JSME Fluids Engineering Division (FED) Home Page. I am Hiroshi Hayami of Kyushu University, and I am very happy to give a welcome greeting as a chairman of FED this year.

We have several international sessions in JSME Annular Conference and also in FED Annular Conference, where the formal language is English. In addition to these international sessions, we have two regular international conferences, one is the ASME/JSME Joint Fluids Engineering Conference and the other was the JSME-KSME Fluids Engineering Conference. The former, the 4th Conference, will be held at Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, during July 7th to July 10th, 2003. The chair-persons of JSME side are Profs. M. Kawahashi of Saitama University and Y. Tsuji of Osaka University. The 1st one started at Portland, the 2nd was at Hilton Head Island, and the 3rd was at San Francisco in 1999, every four years. The latter, the 5th Conference, was held at Nagoya, Japan, in November, 2002, where the Chair was Prof. K. Kikuyama of Nagoya University. The new event of competition by students was held in success. This was called Yume-Contest, which means a competition for dreams. This joint conference will change to a new conference in combination with the Thermal Engineering Division from next conference in 2005 in Korea. The Chair is Prof. S.H Kang of Seoul National University and the Chair-persons of JSME side are Profs, H. Inaba of Okayama University and Y. Murai of Hokkaido University.

We are expecting to see you in those conferences.

We are publishing the International Journal. We have three series. Series B is on fluids engineering and thermal engineering, and it is published every three months. Original and excellent papers are increasing. We welcome your contributions to the Journal. We have a financial supporting system. Please check it on our Web site.

JSME-FED is administered by an executive committee, consisting of members selected according to geographical area and field of specialization, as well as by various committees within the division.
