Aerodynamic Olympics

Let's take a look!

Experimental procedure and explanation:

At the university school festival, we held the Aerodynamic Olympics, a competition using the wind from a hair dryer. There were 10 events, and this was a time trial to complete these events. The 10 events were as follows.

  1. Put the ball in the tube (the ball is made of polystyrene foam and 8 cm in diameter; the tube is 9.4 cm in inner diameter and 30 cm in depth).
Blow the ball upward with the dryer wind to move it a distance of 3 m. Place the ball into the tube.

  2. Remove the ball from the tube (the ball is made of polystyrene foam, 8 cm in diameter; the tube is 9.4 cm in inner diameter, and 30 cm in depth)
Remove the ball with the wind from the dryer.
[Related items] Remove the ball or egg from the tube
  3. Ball walk (the ball is made of polystyrene foam and is 8 cm in diameter)
Move the ball along the course with the wind from the dryer.

  4. Contain the ball (balls are made of polystyrene foam, 8 cm in diameter; the tube is 8.1 cm in inner diameter, and 27 cm in depth)
Contain and carry the ball with a dryer with a wind-spreading attachment, and drop it into a tube.

  5. Remove the ball from the tube (the ball is made of polystyrene foam and 8 cm in diameter; the tube is 8.1 cm in inner diameter and 27 cm in depth)
Remove the ball with the wind from the dryer.
[Related items] Remove the ball or egg from the tube
  6. Remove the disk from the tube (there are seven polystyrene foam disks, 10 cm in diameter and 2 cm thick; the tube has an inner diameter of 11.4 cm and a depth of 30 cm).
Remove all disks with the wind from a dryer. After removing them, return the disks to the tube.

  7. Slither (one polystyrene foam ball with a diameter of 6 cm and five with diameters of 4 cm are connected by a string. The tube has an inner diameter of 6.3 cm and a depth of 28 cm)
Remove the Slither with the wind from a dryer. Put the Slither back.

  8. Remove eggs from the tube (eggs are made of polystyrene foam, 5 cm in diameter; the tube is 6.3 cm in inner diameter and 50 cm in depth)
Remove eggs with the wind from a dryer. After removal, return the egg to the tube.

  9. Remove the rod from the tube (the rod is made of a square polystyrene foam rod with its edges cut to make an octagonal shape and has a length of 22 cm. The tube has an inner diameter of 6.3 cm and a depth of 50 cm.)
Remove the rod with the wind from the dryer. Return the bar to the tube.

  10. Remove a ball from a deep location (balls are made of polystyrene foam, 4 cm in diameter; cylinder is 5 cm in diameter, 3.5 cm in height; tube is 6.3 cm in inner diameter and 50 cm in depth).
Remove the ball and cylinder with the wind from the dryer. Return the ball and cylinder to the tube.

This is a time trial to complete the above 10 events. We competed separately for the junior and senior classes, and the fastest time was 59 s. Why don't you try it at your school?
