Water level of forced vortex
Let's take a look!
What type of experiment is this?
Experimental procedure and explanation:
- Previously, we experimented with forced vertices in experiments like “Free vortex and forced vortex” and “How to make a simple forced vortex”. Here, let’s observe the water level near the center of such a forced vortex.
- When external energy is supplied to cause fluid to swirl, it creates a forced vortex. To create a forced vortex, place a cylindrical tank filled with water on a turntable and rotate it. The rotating water has high pressure on the outer periphery and low pressure near the center, causing the water level to drop near the center where the pressure is low.
- This video of the experiment was produced with the support of JSPS KAKENHI 18K03956.
