Timer using water runoff
Let's take a look!
What type of experiment is this?
Experimental procedure and explanation:
- As the water in the toy made with Continuous production of bubbles flows out at a constant rate, we can use this to make a timer.
- We attach a plastic tape or paper to the sides of the plastic bottle you made. We measure the time and draw a scale as the water is drained out. It is important to ensure that the water is flowing out at a consistent rate.
- Once the scale is written, we refill the water and measure the time. At this time, it should be ensured that the height of the straw outlet is not changed (as a change in height will also change the rate of flow).
- We use a plastic bottle with a consistent diameter within the scale range.
- The toy can supply water at a constant flow rate and can be used to provide water to pets and plants by adjusting the height of the straw outlet, the diameter of the straw, and the size of the hole.
- This experimental video was produced with the support of JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research 18K03956.
