Siphon Principle
Let's take a look!
What kind of experiment is this?
Experimental procedure and explanation:
- Fill a vinyl hose with water. Place one end inside a tank of water and the other end outside the tank. Position the outside end of the hose below the bottom of the tank and release its opening.
- Water inside the tank starts to flow out through the vinyl hose. This is called the siphon principle.
- When there is a height difference between the water surface in the tank and the opening of the hose, the fluid at the higher location has more energy and it will flow toward the lower side. However, the hose has to be completely filled with water for this to happen.
