Yacht Car 3 (Headwind)

Let's take a look!

Watch the video on YouTube.

What kind of experiment is this?

Experimental procedure and explanation:

  • In the case of a headwind, can the car run in the windward direction? The answer is that it can run at an angle towards the wind. Yachts can also move at an angle in the windward direction and, therefore, by changing the direction (tacking) of the yacht, the craft can move in the windward direction.
  • The sail should be pointed in such a way that the wind is deflected toward the rear of the car. As the sail deflects the flow, the sail will receive a force that is opposite to the force that the flow will get from the sail. When this force includes a component that is in the direction of the forward motion of the car, the car moves forward at an angle.
