Preface : Be Ambitious! - New challenges of Mechanical Engineering -

Mechanical Engineering Congress 2015 Japan (MECJ-15) was held for four days from September 13th to 16th in school of engineering, Hokkaido University. The opening words of the motto of this year are famous as Dr. Clark’s words when he left Sapporo, who was the vice-principal at Sapporo Agricultural School, the predecessor of the present Hokkaido University. His words still echo through the heart of the young people and the ex-young people and also encourage we mechanical engineering researchers and engineers strongly.

In this congress, as for the fluids engineering division, there are 2 keynote lectures, 3 workshops, 19 organized and general sessions, 1 civic forum and 2 advanced technology forums. Very active discussions were carried out by all lectures, like last year.

In this theme, articles are provided by speakers of 2 keynote lectures and 2 workshops. They are shown in two parts for their volumes. This issue is keynote lecture “Historical Perspective on Fluid Machinery Flow Optimization and a Message for the Future” by Dr. Akira Goto (EBARA CORPORATION) and “Workshop on Blood Flow Visualization (Kesshiken)”. We hope that these articles are informative for researchers and engineers in our field and stimulate the activities of the fluids engineering division in the future.

Finally, we would like to thank all the authors for their great contributions.

Keynote lecture by Dr. Akira Goto (EBARA CORPORATION)

Takashi Takemura, Ikuya Kinefuchi, Hiroyuki Fujii, Hiroshi Yokoyama
