Abstract
We participated in "The 18th Flow Dream Contest" of which the theme is to make a toy using flow. Our concept of the toy adopted is not only to play with flow but to learn the hydrodynamics and to relax our mind. To do so, we select a mobile, as the toy, which is usually hung from a ceiling and wafting in the air. The present mobile is drifting in a vertically-placed rectangular narrow water channel made of transparent acrylic resin (Fig.1). The uniform water flow in the channel is supplied from a pump through a chamber to straighten the flow. We can observe a dancing object (Fig.2) due to a flow in a channel. Changing the geometry of the objects, appearance of the dancing is quite different (Movie.1,2).
